| Operating system: | Microsoft Windows 3.1/3.11 |
In order to find the NETSCAPE.INI file which it will use, Netscape
Navigator checks, in order:
o the "-I pathname\file.ini" command-line option
o the "INI=" entry in the "[Netscape]" section of WIN.INI
o the directory that NETSCAPE.EXE is being run from
o the directory where Windows is installed
If the .INI file is found by the third or fourth methods above, then
Netscape Navigator will update its part of your WIN.INI file to reflect
where the file was found. Therefore if you want to know what .INI file
your copy of Netscape Navigator is using, you can always check WIN.INI
to find out.
The "-i pathname\file.ini" command-line option will let you start up
Netscape Navigator with a specific NETSCAPE.INI file. For example, if
you want to start up the Navigator with "F:\USERS\JOHN\NETSCAPE.INI" and
ignore any other NETSCAPE.INI file it finds, then use this as the
command line (in the "Run" option under the "File" menu, or in a Program
Manager icon's command line setting):
NETSCAPE.EXE -I F:\USERS\JOHN\NETSCAPE.INI
Generally, the best place for you to keep your NETSCAPE.INI file is in
the same directory which NETSCAPE.EXE is in. That way, if you ever move
this directory, Netscape Navigator will still be able to find its .INI
file without requiring any editing of WIN.INI on your part.
